YES! I frequently save during a workout, due to past issues with app crashing and losing data mid-workout in the last. And, like others, I’ve been forced to cut a workout short on occasion but come back to it later.

Only if optional, and even then, a bad idea - encourages plateau and stagnation.
Generally, we try to increase weights and/or reps with every workout. If I go up in weight, I might not quite hit the total reps. Or, if a weight feels too easy, I might add a couple reps. Auto-populate = no progress/no improvement.
Also, as others noted, the empty blocks help us see where we’re at in our workouts.
Yes please! So many gyms have equipment with both, including duplicate machines but with different weight increments - which we use varies by availability. I also have clients who travel and use different gyms, often running into this issue.
