It's a little unintuitive, but you can delete an item by swiping left. A trashcan icon will then be displayed that will delete the food. (Android app)

I use the website nutritionalvalue.org for this, and then create a custom food item with the nutritional summary provided by the website. It would be nice to be able to import this data without retyping though
