When Foot Pain Starts Limiting Performance, What Should Come First?
We spend a great deal of time as trainers and professionals in the health field helping people to improve their strength, mobility and endurance. Sometimes progress is slowed down by something that many people ignore: foot health.
People often continue to train despite persistent heel pain, bunions or stiffness of the big toe. They may also experience discomfort when walking and exercising. It is a challenge that people often adapt their movements without realizing it. The way they walk, squat or run, and how they distribute their weight can cause stress to other parts of the body.
We often see patients at Advanced Foot Surgery Centre, Perth who thought that their symptoms were minor. Many patients had suffered from discomfort for many months, or even years, before they sought help. Many cases, conservative treatments such as orthotic treatment, movement assessments, and targeted care are first considered before a surgical solution is even considered.
If you are a coach or trainer, I'd love to hear about your experience:
Do you have clients who's progress in the gym is affected by persistent foot pain?
Are you aware that problems with lower limb or foot mechanics can affect mobility, balance or exercise performance.
Would be interesting to know how other professionals deal with this issue when working with clients.
